Psychotherapy is a process that allows us to explore how our thoughts, feelings and actions interact and influence one another. Through thoughtful questioning, healthy confrontation, and a lot of laughter (yes, a sense of humor is vital in this process), I will do my best to help you achieve your therapeutic goals. To me, therapy is an evolving, nurturing, and dynamic conversation that offers support and can lead to change and self-improvement. The process may be difficult at times, but ultimately, people walk away with an awareness of options for behaving, feeling, relating, or understanding differently. Through my collaboration with you, I can help you gain insight, change your behaviors and help you feel better. My clinical specialties include LGBTQ+ Issues, Eating, Exercise, and Body Image Disorders, Technology & Work/Life Imbalance, Anxiety, and Depression. My approach to therapy is highly interactive. I am an engaging, opinionated, and challenging therapist. I work hard to earn your trust and expect my clients to work hard in therapy. By bringing synchronicity to our thoughts, feelings and actions, we can better understand ourselves and thrive in our relationships.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or residual symptoms of a traumatic experience? Do you find yourself using substances or other harmful coping strategies to make it through the day? Do your emotions seem to overwhelm and guide your day-to-day interactions? Are your relationships with others stressful and unfulfilling? These can be debilitating issues that can hinder our ability to move through life with ease, serenity, and peace. I believe that these struggles are not life sentences, and growth and self-actualization can be achieved through cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. With a trauma-informed and -sensitive approach, I create a nonjudgmental, empathic, and healing space for clients in my care. I generally employ cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies in concert with mindfulness-based acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) interventions. I also find great joy in teaching clients about mental health and wellness. I believe that an effective therapeutic relationship begins with authentic and genuine connection. When you meet me, you'll get the real me, not a facade. I would be honored to offer this connection to you in your time of need with warmth, empathy, compassion, understanding, all backed by clinical knowledge and know-how.

One client said " I found every session meaningful and valuable. Gail is a real person, her personality and sense of humor create an environment of comfort and ease. I work with clients' trauma issues through EMDR and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, 'tapping') and the grief/loss issues associated with trauma. I additionally work on skill building through cognitive behavioral therapy, management of anger/stress and enhancement of communication skills. I believe that therapy is a collaborative experience, working together to address clients' goals. I have worked in a hospital setting, in addition to my private practice, for over 10 years. I am a graduate of the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work and have specialized in working with adolescents and young adults who experience high levels of anxiety and vulnerable nervous systems. I first began my journey as a social work intern supporting children and families at Blue Sky Bridge here in Boulder, CO and have since worked in both clinical and community based settings. I offer a wide variety of modalities and tools as each individual benefits from their own treatment plan unique to them. These modalities may include play therapy, CBT, DBT, parts work, and somatic therapy. My experience has ranged from working with young children who have big behaviors, to adults with high levels of complex trauma, all due to vulnerable nervous systems. As a social worker, I believe in the power of family and community systems work and frequently incorporate family members and school professionals in the treatment planning process. As a mental health professional, I believe therapy should be designed to provide us with a safe space to express ourselves, and that my role as a therapist is to help individuals understand the “why” behind their emotional experiences through their own self lead therapeutic journey.

My clients realize that their experience(s) of trauma are impacting their lives in negative ways; Trauma shows up differently for different people, for example through struggles with their intimate partner or family, deep feelings of "being wounded", or persistent anxiety and nightmares. Sometimes it shows up in the body through unexplained medical conditions or physical pain. For most trauma survivors, it creates a deep disconnect from being able to live your best life. I am here to support you on your healing journey wherever that takes us; we may travel through to the past and integrate deep feelings of pain or loss, come back to the present moment to process a misunderstanding with your spouse, and look to the future to place the building blocks of your goals and dreams. As a client-led therapist, that specializes in trauma work, I hope to help you feel truly supported and cared about, to provide a space to work through your struggles, and to be a compassionate guide to help you process, heal, and integrate all aspects of who you are and who you are becoming.

Everywhere you look, you get nothing but misunderstanding. You have drifted farther away from your best life and the way things used to be or the way you feel they should be. Parts of yourself are always on guard and prevent you from connections that make life worthwhile. The joy you once felt is a distant memory. Things have happened to you that were not your fault and it just doesn't seem fair. I offer a neutral, compassionate, and safe therapy setting in which conflicts between your different parts can be aired and resolved. Stresses can accumulate beyond one's ability to manage but these can be unburdened and healed. You deserve to live your best life, but reaching out for help can be scary and hard. It's time to put down the burden of carrying everything alone. Starting to open up in therapy you will find immediate relief. You want to be able to genuinely connect with friends and family again. Though certainly life experiences impact current relationships and functioning, often clients find they feel better faster by learning effective strategies to cope with emotions in the current moment. Counseling does not have to be a life-long commitment. Frequently, my clients find they have met their goals after a brief series of meetings. Clients find I am helpful in addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress management. Having worked in medical clinics, I am particularly able to assist with adjustment to physical health changes and new diagnoses. I assist my clients in their quest to move forward in their lives. My approach is both empathic and empowering. I provide a safe environment for my clients to work through the issues that are the basis for why they are seeking counseling. I believe that so much of what we deal with is rooted in past negative beliefs we have adopted over the years, beginning with childhood. Using a variety of tools and techniques, I help my clients create healthier ways of relating to themselves and the world around them. We are all incredibly unique and the reasons we seek counseling are deeply personal. One constant: I believe we can change, grow, and adopt healthier ways of functioning. It takes a lot of work and courage to achieve that, but I believe it's possible. I have received extensive training from Dr. John Townsend, whose primary focus is on uncovering the breakdown in a person's character structure development and providing a safe, accepting environment in which to heal. I am also an adjunct professor at the Townsend Institute Master of Counseling Program Concordia University, CA.

I am a licensed psychologist with over 10 years of experience providing therapy. Many people I work with come to therapy because they've experienced an overwhelming life event that is impacting them negatively, they feel stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling, or relating to others that are not serving them well, or they are struggling to adjust to a new life circumstance. Therapy is an opportunity to grow into a different kind of relationship with yourself and others, develop new understanding about past and present experiences, and practice more effective approaches to problems in your life. I use an individualized, evidence-based, collaborative approach to working with clients. Together we will work to understand your goals, how they fit in your life context, and what gets in the way of moving toward them. Through our work I can offer helpful tools for responding to difficult emotions, improving relationships, and living a more meaningful life. Finding the right therapist and starting therapy can be challenging and anxiety-provoking. Most clients see me three to five times, and leave our first session feeling significantly better already. You aren't choosing to think, act or feel in the way that's brought you here, so how could you possibly choose NOT to? Psychological problems are caused and maintained by forces that, until we expose them, have been beyond your control. It's *normal* to feel angry, anxious, traumatized or depressed, but it's not wonderful. I want your mind to work optimally! "Optimally" means free of preoccupations that have been keeping you down. Do you want to talk about it, or do you want to feel better? Whatever the issue that's brought you here, I have targeted solutions. You won't have to do homework, relive a trauma, or know why you've been stuck. Your mind knows what it's reacting to and I know how to update it. I practice Rapid Resolution Therapy® a brief and effective therapy. My first session is a 2 hour breakthrough session so we can move forward and get immediate relief. Often people come back for follow up 90 minute sessions (1-5 more) if the presenting problem is complicated or if there are several issues to clear up.

At one point or another, we discover that life is full of ups and downs. The bad news is that no matter how hard we try to hold on to the good times and avoid the bad times, both seem to eventually dissolve into the other. The good news is that this isn't a problem and doesn't need to be feared. Successful therapy helps clients learn to understand how our lives flow, clarifies the confusion that comes when things feel particularly stuck and unsettled, and helps to draw out the wisdom of our mind, body, and spirit. View 4 Photos My approach is non-pathological, gentle, often infused with humor, and oriented towards synchronizing mind and body. Drawing on tools and techniques from Western Psychology and Eastern Philosophy, together you and I will explore what is and isn't working in your life and discover how you can make changes to move you towards the life you want to be living. In addition to having an MA from Naropa University in Boulder, CO, I am a former snowboard and skateboard instructor, an avid outdoorsman, and I have a lifelong love of video games. I help to teach therapists in training, have a daily mindfulness practice, and spend at least two weeks a year on meditation retreats in service of my work as a therapist.
